The acoustic reflex test is another middle ear test that looks at how well one of the muscles in your middle ear stops loud sounds. The muscle acts like a shock absorber, contracting when you hear loud sounds; it won’t stop all loud sounds, but it should dampen some of the sound. You’ll again have a probe placed in your ear and will have to listen to a loud sound. The probe will record how the muscle reacts.
